BTWN Field Notes

Sagebrush

One field note per week for leaders who carry real responsibility. Short enough to read. Useful enough to use.

Issue No. 1

My greatest failure came when I stopped being rooted.

A few years ago I was chasing a dream — and I made myself easy prey by leaving my root. The partnership dissolved badly. But the real loss wasn't the business.

Issue No. 2

Rooted doesn't mean slowed down. It means you can feel when you're off.

Root isn't a personality type. It's the answer to a question most leaders never stop long enough to ask: Who am I when nothing is working — and is that person someone I trust.

Issue No. 3

The thing that will cost you most isn't a bad decision. It's a good habit you never built.

One move — small enough to run in the middle of a hard day, a tense meeting, or a drive home when you're already behind. Its called 3R. Reset. Refocus. Respond.

Stay above the line.
